- Hi,
-
- I've got a problem that I haven't seen amongst all the posts
- about the sportster I read in this group.
-
- My problem: the sportster simply wouldn't connect (not at all)
- to another 28.8/V.34 modem without modifying the S register
- settings.
-
- My first solution was to manually (using an N command) limit
- the connection speed.
-
- My second solution was AT&F1S32=16, which disables 33.6 kbps support
- as well as (apparently) something called V.8 mode, although
- this was not really clear from the manual. This allowed me
- to connect with my fancy modem at a speed of 14,400 but I did
- have all the fancy MNP and V4.2bis stuff.
-
- My latest solution is to return to AT&F1 and then set S15=128,
- which disables V4.2bis compression. Now I get 28,800 connects
- but with MNP5 compression and not V4.2.
-
- I've heard a lot about upgrades; is my modem an upgradable model?
- If so, is it one of the downloadable programs (USRDL.EXE?) or
- a chip? I've got a 28,800 DATA/FAX Modem, Sportster, Plug and Play.
- The following text shows the response of the modem to queries.
- By the way, it is an internal modem.

- ati0 (product code): 3361
- ati3: Sportster 33600/Fax V1.0
